Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council FRAMER’S MARKET

Purchase affordable frames of various sizes and learn to frame 2D artworks on-site at Handmade Arcade! Join Tom Cascone from Lawrenceville-based FrameHouse Gallery to learn the basics of framing and matting artwork you have purchased at Handmade Arcade. Presented by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council and Tom Casone from FrameHouse Gallery

Tom — who has worked in the professional framing business for 45 years — will teach Handmade Arcade attendees the basics of glass cutting, proportioning and color selection, the dos and don’ts of mounting artwork, how to make frames from common materials found at a lumber yard, and how to assemble and finish a framing project. Tom will be on hand to answer questions attendees may have about picture framing.

DJ Mary Mack: 11 A.M. – 2 P.M.
A member of Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative, Mary uses printmaking as a catalyst for social change, working in tandem with grassroots groups working for social and environmental justice and equity, as well as serious fun. At Handmade Arcade, you can find her squirrel hankies in the Craft-o-Tron Machine! As DJ Mary Mack, she strives to make safe(r) spaces on dance floors for embodying a body politic with pleasure. She co-founded the popular monthly queer dance party Operation Sappho (2006-2013) and Chick Pea radio show (1997-2012) on WRCT. Mary plays a mix of post-punk, new wave and no wave, indie dance music, and ’90s throwbacks, always with a girl to the front sensibility.

DJ Pandemic: 2 – 5 P.M.
Pittsburgh’s own global dancehall guru, celebrating his 11th anniversary in the Burgh, will play an intoxicating mix of Balkan brass, Cumbia, Afrobeat, Bhangra, electro Arabic tech-hop, Brazilian Baile funk, Chalga, Turkish reggaeton and so much more.

DJ set by The Garment District: 5 – 7 P.M.
Into your ears: Handmade Arcade co-coordinator Jennifer Baron, founder of the Pittsburgh-based band The Garment District and long-time member of Brooklyn’s The Ladybug Transistor, will wrap up the day with a mix of her own original recordings, along with plenty of 1960s psychedelia, garage rock, 1980s pop, grrrl groups, folk rock, soundtracks, Library music, outsider sounds, and early electronic grooves.
