HANDS-ON HANDMADE Activity Area: Bridging the gap between consumers and creators

One of Handmade Arcade’s most popular features is the on-site Hands-on Handmade area. It’s a FREE “craft lab” environment which offers a variety of innovative art, craft and tech activities, from yarn bombing to creative-reuse projects. Take part in tutorials, public-art projects, games, large-scale installations, and hands-on workshops.

Hands-On Handmade is curated and designed to be accessible for all. Serving more than 4,000 participants, Hands-on Handmade addresses the following:

  • craft and making as a means of community engagement
  • the act of making something by hand
  • collaboration and creative expression
  • the application of craft-based techniques and materials

HOHA’s participants will:

  • engage attendees and vendors in a shared creative process
  • encourage the public to consider the role of craft in their own lives
  • increase awareness about handmade and locally-produced goods
  • design an activity that can be completed within a realistic time-frame

HOHA requirements include:

  • well thought-out activities that engage a wide variety of ages and skill levels
  • participants must be able to run their activity using their own volunteers or employees
  • a clear description of the proposed activity
  • participant bio(s)
  • a proposed budget for activities

Applications to participate in 2019’s Hands-on Handmade Activity Area will be accepted on a rolling basis until all spots are full.
