Hello, and welcome to the After Dark. My name is Dan Senneway the creator of After Dark Illustrations. I’ve been working on this same body of work since 2013, while studying art at SRU. I was inspired by the small town scenery, on my walks home after working late in the studios. Each illustration is hand-drawn digitally through photoshop, in the same manor one would produce a Lino-block point. My process starts with a painted sky background then, I follow up with a dark layer to go underneath my colorful mark making and highlights. My favorite subject matter to draw are small towns that normally invoke nostalgic feelings, or empty places that remind the viewer of an oddly familiar “dream-scape”. All my illustrations tell a piece of a bigger story, but vague enough that you, the viewer, can envision their own. With the strong contrast and emphasis on the beautiful colors, the After Dark shows us a unique side of night, like one you have never seen before.
