I am a second generation potter making functional pottery in my home studio here in Pittsburgh. I was taught by my parents as a young teenager – after high school I didn’t touch clay for 20 years. In the fall of 2017 I purchased my first kiln and a bag of clay, which I started rolling out on my kitchen counter, and I have been hooked ever since.
Having spent 20+ years working in restaurants, I find the connection between pottery, food & beverage as the driving force behind my body of work. A bowl that holds food is useful, but a bowl that fits in your hand and has micro design details to intrigue your mind, while you enjoy your food, is next level stuff. My intention is to bring your daily pottery use to that next level by creating beautiful & functional handmade work.
Similar to cooking I believe that the attention to detail is what makes my pottery special. The idea that we taste our food with our eyes first is a sentiment I carry over into my pottery. Each piece has a a neck, shoulder, belly & foot, and I believe that its balanced shape & human-like quality is what my customers are drawn to.
Finally, when you purchase an item from B. Cramer Clay, you can feel good about the fact that it has been fired in an electric kiln powered by clean energy. Thank you for your support.
