ABOUT ME
Welcome to the Borealis Candle Co. maker page! My name is Norah Whitmore, and I started Borealis in 2019 because I wanted to create high quality and design-forward candles that are also nontoxic. As an obsessive researcher and shameless perfectionist, I set out to create not only a truly excellent candle, but a product line that reflects Pittsburgh and the pride I feel for this city. Owning a candle business has “fringe benefits,” too: my home, which also happens to be my studio, is constantly filled with wonderful fragrance, and I think my family and friends would agree that it pays to know a candle maker!
ABOUT MY PRODUCTS
Made with a clean-burning, nontoxic blend of soy and coconut wax, each Borealis candle is free from harmful phthalates, dyes, preservatives, and lead (unfortunately common to store-bought brands). My candles are made with cotton-core wicks and a combination of ethically sourced fragrance and essential oils. The addition of coconut wax provides a stronger “scent throw” than soy wax alone; both waxes are vegan and sustainable grown in the U.S.
Environmental stewardship is also very important to me: Borealis’s signature amber glass jar and gold lid are both beautiful and recyclable in Pittsburgh; additionally, when shipping products, I take care to use ONLY recyclable packing materials.
