BUGABOO FRIENDS

Bugaboo Friends is a collection of works including soft goods, prints, and knick-knacks, created by Emily Spooner. I have a deep love for all things cute and tiny, so my products serve as a way for me to share that passion with others. Each piece is united by a goal to invoke a warm and fuzzy feeling, utilizing bright colors and friendly faces. I learned how to sew from my mom, and growing up I used that skill as a way to make handmade gifts for loved ones. I strive to continue that handmade, personal intention in my work today by putting the same sense of love in every piece, hoping to spark joy in others.

PLUSHIES

Whether a soft sculpture or a keychain, all soft goods are hand-sewn by myself, making no two products exactly the same. I specialize in creating my own patterns, so I enjoy improvising with the design as it is being made to see where my imagination leads. The concept for a plushie often begins with a quick, silly doodle or a funny conversation with my partner. These brainstorm sessions have led to unique creatures like Galactic Grape, Skater Citrus, or a grumpy ceramic vase brought to life. Big or small, I cherish the unique personality of each piece as it emerges.

MINI GOURDS

I also create mini figures out of small bottle gourds by sanding the outside and painting over them. This started after receiving some bottle gourds from my friend’s mother’s garden, and I enjoy figuring out what each gourd could be based on the different proportions that emerge. The common theme throughout my work is in embracing the handmade, using my small-batch approach as an opportunity to create more personal products that connect more deeply with others.
