Green Hazel
About Me:
Hi there, welcome to the Green Hazel maker page. I engage in plant craft of both the living and decidedly dead varieties. I offer botanical wall art, mossy terrariums, dried floral bouquets, plant-centric home goods, and locally-grown native perennial wildflower seedlings to the plant-curious in Pittsburgh.
While I’ve been a plant enthusiast for decades, Green Hazel is a new side project born of my obsessive need to (1) share plants with friends and (2) cover everything — and I do mean everything — with moss. The Green Hazel aesthetic was once described as “Bog Witch meets Miss Havisham.” I’d never felt so seen.
I see plants as allies for improving our living spaces and sense of well-being. Even those who think they have a black thumb deserve to have a little green around them!
About My Stuff:
I use living mosses farmed in my own woodland micro-nursery in Greenfield and repurposed or thrifted containers for my terrariums. They are already established and very easy to care for. Give them a name (Yes, I think plants deserve names) and mist them once in a while and they’ll thrive.
I use dried and preserved mosses in the crafting of wall art pieces that look like living walls, but come with none of the maintenance. Much of the wood, lichen, and mushrooms for these pieces is locally and sustainably harvested. I grow all my own dried flowers too, with the help of farm assistant mini goats/mascots: Peanut and Greyhound.
I also offer native perennial wild flower seedlings. I will have Baptisia, Sweet Joe Pye Weed, Wild Lupines, Rose Milkweed, Rattlesnake Master, Ironweed, Mountain Mint, and perhaps a few surprises. These are all grown in my own backyard. They’ll thrive in your garden and offer feed, habitat, and nectar for our pollinators for years to come.
