2023 Holiday Market
I’ve always been drawn to the charm of vibrant birdhouses in well-maintained gardens, especially those classic post-set wren houses that hosted a myriad of feathered guests. My creations blend the timeless craftsmanship of yesteryear with contemporary twists. Inspiration strikes from many sources – a captivating house during a drive, a photograph, or even a vision or dream of an architectural building (often silly). I like to try and incorporate lots of different materials such as clay, colorful hardwoods, metals, and just about anything to add character or realism. I source most materials from my woodworking friends, recycling reclaimed or donated scraps, and resort to local home improvement stores only when needed. While I don’t think I have a preference in style – be it traditional, rustic, country, or contemporary – I most definitely enjoy the challenge of making replicas of beloved family homes. My greatest hope is to create something that sparks fond memories and brings a smile to the faces of all who gaze upon it!
Harry is a retired chef/owner, along with his wife Jean, with nearly 30 years of experience operating Opening Night Catering in the Strip. With a passion for all things pastry, he began doing sculptures from chocolate, sugar, and marzipan, competing both nationally and internationally. Although I’ve only been building these birdhouses for a little over a year now, I believe this to be the start of what has become “Home Tweet Homes”. Funny enough, I recall jokingly telling my kids around the fire pit a few years ago that I’d retire by making birdhouses for pocket change. Look at me now!
