ABOUT ME:
Welcome to LaVerne Kemp Studios, an experience in pattern, color and texture. My name is LaVerne Kemp and I love making beautiful pieces of art that can be either a wearable or decorative item for the home. For the past four decades (that’s 40 years!!!) I have been weaving, making felt, and designing and dying fabric and yarn for my large and small “art to wear” pieces.
ABOUT MY PRODUCTS:
My woven pieces include handwoven shawls, scarves, belts, and ponchos. Each of my pieces are one of a kind and made completely by myself. I promise that you will never see another piece like the one you purchase. I want each person who buys a piece of my work to know that they have an original. I hand pick all of my materials and strive to use a variety of colors and textures in each choice.
I also make jewelry and accessories to accent my woven pieces. Ever since childhood I have collected unusual things. I had relatives who were antique dealers and I often spent my spare time shopping with them. As a young child I helped my aunt clean her house to make extra money (quarters, really) and then would recycle my earnings back into the family by shopping with my uncle. Now I incorporate vintage and unusual beads, buttons, and found objects into my jewelry accessories, art to wear, and other artwork.
