Welcome to the Pistil Calyx maker page! My name is Jahmaiah pr. (yuh-my-yuh).  I love exploring shape, texture and color through clay. I draw inspiration from mid century fashion and design. I am moved by color. Whether it be bold or muted, color sings to me.  I love to make things. I had excellent art teachers in elementary and high school, through them I was able to explore an impressive variety of mediums. I studied graphic design in college. In addition to art, I love to craft. I happened upon polymer clay in 2018 through my oldest child who also likes to craft. It was different than any other medium that I’ve tried. I was never drawn to sculpting or modeling with clay, but the myriad of bold color grabbed my attention. I messed around with it daily as well as following many clay-ers in the process. I began making clay earrings and hair pins in early 2020. In addition to my love of art and design, I have a strong appreciation for  fashion and makeup, I particularly enjoy period costume and dress. A period that I’m drawn to as far as personal taste is the women of the forties and fifties. I draw inspiration from how they got up, got dolled up and dressed. They dressed to be seen and to be enjoyed amongst themselves. I love looking at old photographs, movies and current period film and television. I imagine that my work with earrings and hair pins is a continuation of mid century style if it stayed on its trajectory. Thank you for stopping by my page, I can’t wait to see you all in person!!!
