ABOUT ME:
Drink it. Wear it. Everything I create is made from dirty, stinky, empty beverage bottles. Really! Hi, my name is Kathleen Plate and I have been transforming post-consumer bottles into jewelry for 28 years now. It all started when I was in graduate school and needed a gift for a friend’s birthday. I made her a pair of earrings from an empty red wine bottle I had (because hey, why not?) and that’s how my business started. Every day in my studio I cut, fire, and transform bottles into beautiful jewelry and artwork (I even have a patent on my process). I’ve been honored to work with stores, museums, galleries, and big companies like Aveda and Coca-Cola. I collect the bottles from bars, restaurants, friends, and dumpsters (yes, dumpster diving is part of my job).
ABOUT THE PRODUCTS:
Take a look around: the different studio techniques I use on the glass create beautiful, distinct patterns and styles. One of my favorite things about my work is that the beautiful colors you see are original to the bottles—I don’t change the size, shape, or color. These are things you see every day in the world. My jewelry shows you a new perspective.
All of my work comes ready to gift with an adorable box and color card that identifies which colors come from which types of bottles. You won’t believe how beautiful a beer bottle can be.
