Winter Pickle Press

* Come see me at the 2023 Holiday Market at Space 146! *
Hello and welcome to the Winter Pickle Press maker page for Handmade Arcade 2023! My name is Becky Compeau and I am the sole owner/artist/designer/printer/tea-maker at Winter Pickle Press.
Originally from Brighton, England, I first started taking evening printmaking classes when I moved to San Diego in 2012. Linocut printing quickly became my preferred method as I enjoy the accessibility and immediate results of the format, along with the puzzle-solving process required to make your design print how you would like it to! I’m also a big fan of sending and receiving greeting cards – especially just to surprise friends and family in the mail – so in 2019, after a few years with no printmaking, I got back into it big time and started Winter Pickle Press.
I began printing only greeting cards but have since expanded my product selection to include notebooks, cork coasters, and larger wall art.
I strongly believe that my business shouldn’t harm the environment. I operate in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly way by using 100% recycled card stock and envelopes (up to 100% post-consumer waste), safe water-based and vegetable oil-based inks, and biodegradable plant-based protective sleeves when necessary. I also use recycled and recyclable packaging for all orders I ship. My card stock and envelopes even come from a mill in Michigan that is powered by hydroelectricity!
I carve all my designs into linoleum blocks and then every single product is individually hand-printed by me, making each item slightly unique and extra special. It’s a slow, traditional process, but, for me, there’s nothing better than items that are truly handmade. My product lines can be found in stores around Pittsburgh, on Etsy and my own website, and through national retailer FreePeople.com.
