Named one of “35 Indie Craft Fairs Every Creative Person Needs to Visit” by Buzzfeed in 2014, Handmade Arcade’s Holiday Market is Pittsburgh’s premier handmade holiday shopping event. At the Holiday Market, you can shop from more than 290+ makers selling handcrafted clothing, accessories, art, home decor, jewelry, body products, and more unique items you won’t find anywhere else. Bring your friends and family for a full day of shopping, hands-on art-making, and incredible live art demos.

Take a break from your shopping to visit our Hands-On Handmade Arcade are for live artistic demonstrations, hands-on art-making, and collaborative community art projects. All HOHA activities listed below will occur on Saturday, December 6 from 11 AM - 5:30 PM unless indicated by an * symbol.

  • Watch the process of large-scale silk screening up close as AIR artists and CAPA students create silkscreened art designed by teens and AIR staff on enormous sheets of paper. Attendees can take a sheet home to use as handmade holiday wrapping paper.

    You can also put your nose to the test in a Match the Scent game. How well do you know the fragrance oils in your favorite candle scents? Us your memory, scent recognition, and attention-to-detail to match each fragrance oil to a beautifully displayed candle.

  • Take a visit to Union Project’s Wheel Mobile, equipped with clay, tools, a potter’s wheel, and a Raku kiln. This mobile studio extends Union Project’s ceramics programming by bringing clay anywhere there’s a road. Their teaching artists can show up at a playground, neighborhood festival, library, etc., and provide wheel throwing, hand-building, and Raku firing demonstrations and activities.

    You will have the opportunity to witness the magic of this beautiful art form up close. Watch as Union Project teaching artists demonstrate their throwing skills on a pottery wheel.

  • Join Protohaven for a captivating live demonstration of traditional blacksmithing and woodturning. Watch as a skilled blacksmith heats raw metal in a roaring forge, then shapes it with precision using hand tools, hammer and anvil, transforming simple stock into a striking work of craftsmanship.

    Meanwhile, Protohaven’s expert woodturner will brings a block of wood to life on the lathe, carefully carving and refining it into a unique, handcrafted piece before your eyes.

    Don’t miss this immersive look at the power, rhythm, and artistry of time-honored trades!

  • Let the artists from Pittsburgh Glass Center blow your mind! Hot Wheels, the center’s traveling glass studio, will roll into the market and bring furnace-fired fun and glass-blowing demonstrations to all attendees, creating fiery works of art from molten magma.

  • Get inspired by the hyper realistic dessert candles of Millennium Scents as you build your very own wax melt “sandwich.” Using a variety of provided colorful wax pieces, fragrance options, and decorative toppings, you’ll layer pieces together to create a one-of-a-kind wax melt masterpiece. Just like building a sandwich, you’ll choose your “bread,” “filling,” and “extras” — only it’s all wax!

  • What's that tapping sound? It's a flock of typewriters! Stop by to discover these magical mechanical marvels for yourself. Participants of all ages are invited to test out the BatCat Press vintage machines and design a one-of-a-kind holiday card to take away!

  • Take a break during your shopping for a beginner course on crochet. led by Wrath of Aries Workshop. You’ll learn how to create a "chain' and a "single crochet stitch".

    Once the course is over, you’ll leave with resources of how to continue your personal crochet journey! .

    Class will be from 2:30 - 5:30 PM on Saturday, December 6

  • Reimagined Recycling collects difficult to recycled single-use plastics and turns them into home goods, jewelry, and building material. Stop by to try this on your own start with recycled plastic flakes. You’ll use heat to craft beads in an injection molder and make your own friendship bracelet from recycled plastic beads!

  • We Are All Connected is an interactive, hands-on community-building activity led by Scrapwerx designed to engage participants of all ages. You will explore shared values and experiences by selecting statements or sayings that resonate with you. Each selected statement is paired with a peg on a large display board. You will tie a string from your unique starting point to the peg that represents your chosen message.

    As more people take part, the board gradually transforms into a vibrant web of interconnected threads—visually demonstrating the powerful ways we are all connected through common feelings, ideas, and experiences. The final installation offers a striking, collective portrait of community unity and individual expression.

  • Help Troop 9109 to make a large-scale collaborative weaving! Visit their lashed frame, and weave with the frame using colorful rope and yarn. This community weaving needs your handmade touch, so be sure to stop by and contribute!
