LaVerne Kemp

Artist, LaVerne Kemp Studios

LaVerne is a Pittsburgh fiber artist and weaver whose practice now spans 48 years. Her use of color, texture and interesting found objects make her artwork undeniable. LaVerne is a weaver by trade but also incorporates other fiber art techniques such as dying, felting, and beadwork in her designs. She embellishes her handwoven textiles and sculptural trees and wall pieces with beautiful beads and found object treasures. Her most recent large scale trees are the current background for her hand made glass and ceramic beads used as embellishments.

Her work has been exhibited in many boutiques, fashion shows and museums across the United States. Her most recent have been the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington DC, The African American Museums in Dallas Texas and Lexington Kentucky and most recently the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden where she participated in both a Quilt Exhibit and a Weaving Exhibit in 2026. LaVerne has been a teaching artist with the Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Media and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts/Pennsylvania Creative Industries.
