Artist, Folk Quilts
Inspired by the many colorful stories I heard about my great-grandmother, Maggie V. Folk McClellan (1879–1967), I felt called to follow in her footsteps through the craft of quilting. Without a sewing machine, I began studying patchwork techniques, color theory, quilt layout, and design in 1996.
What started as a curiosity has since evolved into a deep and abiding passion. I specialize in intricate geometric patterns and custom motifs, blending African and American traditions with innovation to create quilts that are both beautiful and functional. Through longarm quilting, I add depth and texture, pushing the boundaries of traditional form and function.
Beyond my own practice, I am devoted to sharing this art with others through lectures, classes, and workshops. Teaching brings me tremendous fulfillment, as I witness students grow in confidence, creativity, and technical skill—mirroring my own journey with this fine craft.
Quilting also allows me to honor my great-grandmother’s legacy in a personal and powerful way. With each stitch, I metaphorically kente weave the threads of past and present, creating a living tapestry that celebrates heritage, resilience, and creativity. Her influence is woven into every quilt I make—an enduring tribute that links generations.
