Huffalo was founded in 2006 by metalsmith Lindsay Huff to share the joys of vitreous enameling through making one-of-a-kind enamel on copper jewelry. Twenty years later, this goal has continued to evolve by teaching classes and workshops to thousands of students in the southwestern Pennsylvania region. Representing the intersection of these two paths, much of the current body of work repurposes scrap metals from teaching. Each piece becomes like a puzzle of balancing fabrication processes like sawing, etching, and soldering with wearability, durability, and heirloom-quality craftsmanship. Details are added with layered enamels, sgraffito painting, and iron oxide decals, with all pieces being made by hand at Huffalo HQ in Etna. The current lineup includes earrings, necklaces, rings, and bolo ties.
In addition to wearable pieces, Huffalo also includes recycled metal collage panels made from aluminum, reclaimed wood, and other found objects, as well as enamel campware mugs, and recycled metal air plant holders. Across scale and medium, this body of work is informed by landscapes, daydreamed memories, maps, and finding beauty in unexpected places. Huffalo is proudly queer owned and operated.
