Mary Mack Prints is a natural offshoot of artist-educator-DJ Mary Tremonte’s print-focused artistic practice. Mary is often inspired by walks in the woods of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and loves learning about native plants and foraging for edible mushrooms. Her work is often inspired by the more-than-human world and begins with close observation and drawing, usually with brush and ink. She then adapts her drawings into designs that she screenprints by hand onto bandanas, tea towels, as art prints, and more. She also uses a risograph to transform her designs into stationery and affordable print editions, and designs embroidered badges.
Mary does her screenprinting and risograph printing out of her collective print studio Lavender Estero. Her most popular and resonant items are by far her bandanas, or “hankies,” in a nod to gay hanky code, particularly her raccoon and possum hankies. All of her textile pieces are screenprinted by hand from original drawings with soft, non-toxic water-based inks, onto 100% cotton bandanas, heat set, and ready to accompany their new owners on all their adventures. A common thread throughout her practice is creating opportunities for connection, and her work celebrates and amplifies our affinities with animals, mushrooms, plants, and one another.
