Meet the Maker: I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Charlottesville, Virginia. I work as a full time artist making cozy functional ceramics and whimsical tufted pillows, rugs, and wall hangings. In my ceramic work I use a pottery wheel to make practical everyday art objects. After the clay has been bisque fired I use a paintbrush to layer different glazes together to create vibrant color combinations. Each ceramic piece includes a surprise sgraffito design on the bottom with my signature. For my tufted work, I use a tufting gun to apply yarn to stretched monks cloth fabric. I use the yarn in a painterly way to turn my designs into functional works of art for the home. I use natural fiber yarn and sustainably sourced fabrics. After I finish the tufting process, I apply a backing to the pillows and rugs before I sew them or bind the rug edges. My art often takes inspiration from nature, using my own photos as references for my work.
