Meet the Maker: Amanda Seanor is a Pennsylvania hand woven textile and beadwork artist who was born and raised in Westmoreland County but now resides on the Eastern side of the state. Amanda earned her B.S.Ed. degree in Art Education, and a B.F.A. in Textiles with a minor in Art History from Kutztown University in 2015. She creates with all types of textile processes, from dyeing yarn and weaving one-of-a-kind wearables on an 8-harness floor loom, to sewing with her wovens or creating different types of uniquely designed hand-beaded accessories. She has been sharing her work through local exhibitions and craft shows like the PA Guild of Craftsmen and the Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen. Over the years, Amanda has been developing a studio practice focusing on sustainability and a zero-waste ethos. Since weaving is a slow process art form; each handwoven piece is a one-of-a-kind wearable item made with intention, one thread at a time and bold color design. With that intention, every inch of the handwoven cloth, material, or warp strings get utilized in some way. Woven remnants get turned into pockets on hand-sewn bags or other wearable accessories, and warp remnants that would typically not get woven turn into light weight beaded statement necklaces. Her beaded jewelry reflects a meticulous, time-honored craft with unique designs and a touch of unexpected charm. Amanda loves using bold color and thoughtful design whether that's through her textile work and beadwork or the way she does her daily make-up.
