Andrew Tischler Glass

Meet the Maker: Pittsburgh based artist Andrew Tischler has used the medium of flameworked glass to make objects in the Visionary Art tradition for nearly 20 years. He explores complex patterns, rich color-ways, and iridescence in his work. Andrew hopes viewing his work reminds people that values like beauty, truth, and love are the foundation of our existence. To produce his original patterns Andrew must be in true collaboration with the material itself. Rather than placing colored pigment in a traditional sense, achieving his color-ways demands an intimate understanding of how temperature control relates to the alignment of certain metal-oxides within the matrix of the glass. In this way glass is the only medium he could choose to produce this work. He is best known for his “fractal” pattern, an original variation on an ancient Italian technique, the reticello.
