Meet the Maker: My journey with fiber started at age eight when my mom taught me to sew. I grew up with handmade quilts from family members, smocked dresses by my grandmother, and beautiful embroideries on my walls from my Mummier. As a lifelong crafter and fiber artist, I am fueled by a deep-rooted connection to the craft and an appreciation for the visual and tactile richness. As a disabled, queer artist living with chronic pain, my body sets the pace for my work, and I’ve learned to see that as part of the art itself. My practice combines my illustration background with traditional quilting techniques, creating colorful whole-cloth quilts that explore joy, comfort, color, and care. Each quilt is meant to be displayed as a vibrant, textural wall hanging. My quilts are a bright alternative to the grey and dull minimalism of today’s trends. I am a collector at heart, inspired by antique stores with every inch of wall space decorated like an iSpy book. Each piece I create is a celebration of color and form, that serve as an antidote to the trends of plainness and uniformity.
