Meet the Maker: Breadwinners is a bag, accessory, and home goods brand made for a life well fed! Breadwinners is a love letter to the act of eating, to our bodies, and all the ways we nourish them. Every Breadwinners piece is mindfully made and produced in my studio here in Pittsburgh, PA. I pull from a wide array of fiber techniques in my work. Our rope bags and hats are a modern take on coil basketry, a traditional technique I honor through thoughtful design and small-batch production. Our collection of earrings dives further into the magic of rope as a material. I spin the rope for our earrings entirely by hand, using scrap and second hand yarns. This process allows for the details of each yarn to really sing. This year we have introduced new fabric pieces, made primary from dead stock fabric, including our 5 panel “Snack Hats” and the “Extra Hand” bags. Each piece I make is meticulously crafted to create thoughtful and unique relationships between your body and the objects you ask each bag to hold. They are built to cultivate joy in your daily life. A companion pressing softly against your side, a proud and intentional display of your afternoon snack, a crisp canvas for crumbs and the clutter of a beautifully complicated life.
