Meet the Maker: Inspired by her mother's love of gardening and textiles, Emmanuelle uses mid-fire stoneware clay to create wheel thrown and hand-built decorative, yet functional ceramic home goods. The simple forms and shapes, of the ceramic pieces make the texture the focus of the work. The lace comes from multiple time periods. Emmanuelle receives much of it from friends and family, or finds it in antique stores, fabric shops, and online. She presses the lace into the clay form, then highlights the surface with colored underglazes and glazes. The breaking of the glazes over the lace patterns accentuates the natural beauty of the clay underneath. Emmanuelle's pieces capture a moment in time, like putting a memory in stone. Each piece of lace has a story. Through clay, Emmanuelle takes that story, which normally fades, yellows, and tatters, and makes it permanent. Emmanuelle creates heirlooms, gardens and memories that can last lifetimes and be used to create new memories.
