Meet the Maker: Baltimore Artist, Jennifer McBrien, once a painter, now turned Fiber artist, created her company jennyjen42 while teaching and running a high school art program in 2007. Her work at the time featured birds cut from felt, arranged and sewn onto numerous functional wares that she sold from her Etsy shop. Now retired from teaching, she has grown into an artisan who has mastered the art of drawing with her sewing machine. Her passion for birds and the environment comes through in her rich narratives being told through thread and fabric! She uses freehand machine and hand embroidery on up-cycled and organic fabrics to make decorative and functional works of art. All of her functional pieces are original designs and grow from a need for practicality, along with a unique aesthetic that she continues to grow within her brand. Her art starts with wall pieces, decor pillows and handbags and stretches to functional accessories.
