Meet the Maker: At Loon Designs, I make durable, functional carry goods and accessories that are meant to last a lifetime. Each piece is designed and handcrafted in my studio in western Pennsylvania, using materials that tell their own story such as waxed canvas, vegetable-tanned and full-grain leathers, solid brass hardware, sturdy webbing, and premium textiles. I am drawn to materials that age with character and show the marks of a well-lived life. I have been sewing for more than twenty years, and my love for craftsmanship has always been rooted in creating something that feels both useful and beautiful. Bag making, for me, is a balance of artistry and precision. Every pattern is developed with careful attention to how a bag will feel to carry, how it will move, and how it will hold up over time. I use a mix of traditional sewing techniques and modern construction methods to ensure strength, structure, and longevity, while keeping the design clean and minimal. Sustainability plays a quiet but important role in my process. I repurpose offcuts into smaller items such as keychains, tassels, bag charms, and zipper pouches, and I work in small batches to reduce waste and maintain consistency. Nothing is rushed, and every detail is considered. Loon Designs represents my belief that everyday objects can be both practical and meaningful. My goal is to create pieces that people use daily and grow attached to, objects that feel like trusted companions rather than accessories. Each design is a reflection of my respect for craftsmanship, honest materials, and the beauty found in thoughtful simplicity.
