Meet the Maker: Through the combination of lost wax casting and hand fabrication I create modernist inspired, heirloom quality jewelry in sterling silver and 14k gold. I adopted a similar approach to the wood turner’s techniques of adding color to their work, refined my process and applied it to my jewelry practice. I use a mixture of crushed gemstones and fine minerals secured into the recesses with jeweler’s grade resin to create my one-of-a-kind inlay compositions. To add more dimensional color and brilliance to the grit of my inlays, I set coordinating gemstones into the surface of my jewelry. I gravitate towards underappreciated gemstones to revive their allure and to offer fine jewelry that’s accessible to a larger middle-class market. No material goes to waste in my studio practice. I melt down scrap metal to make new wire and sheet and use my fillings as shimmering accents in my inlays. Each piece is crafted through detailed carving, fabrication, inlaying and stone setting making no two pieces the same.
