Meet the Maker: I am an artist and educator working in the mediums of wood and basketry. My artistic practice is driven by the transformative power of craft to cultivate mindfulness, foster play, and develop resilience. Working with methodical and repetitive techniques is calming for my mind; the resulting objects are representations of self-care that communicate between my rational brain and emotional brain. Over the past six years, I have developed a body of work that combines wood and dyed reed as well as the techniques of furniture making and basketry. Through function and interaction, I tell stories: a tiny drawer in an unexpected place, a pop of color and texture where you would generally never look; these elements allow me to imbue my values of craft and care into the pieces I make.
