Meet the Maker: My name is Seiko Sisco, and I am the founder and sole maker behind Waku Waku Baby. I am also the surface pattern designer behind many of the original fabrics featured on my products. As both a maker and designer, I create modern, wearable items for babies and toddlers that combine comfort, durability, and joyful design. Waku Waku Baby is a handmade business specializing in small, fabric-based accessories. For this Modern Craft Market, I will focus on wearable products including baby and toddler (and occasionally adult) Stay-On Shoes, Stay-Dry Bandana Bibs, Hand-Knotted Hair Bows, Burp Cloths, and a small number of Reversible Bucket Hats. What sets my work apart is the combination of technical craftsmanship, functional design, and the use of unique fabrics. More than half of my products feature original surface designs that I hand-illustrate, digitize, and refine into seamless repeating patterns. These designs bring charm and individuality, while the product construction emphasizes quality, comfort, and usability. Each collection is thoughtfully curated so colors, themes, and patterns can mix and match—allowing customers to create cohesive, giftable sets of shoes, bibs, and accessories. My craft process emphasizes precision and functionality. I have spent years refining the fit of my bestselling Stay-On Shoes, which feature adjustable ankle elastics to accommodate different foot shapes, fully lined interiors (with no seams exposed), and reinforced topstitching for durability. Burp cloths and bibs are topstitched for strength, and bibs feature dual snap closures for adjustable sizing. Reversible Bucket Hats are also top stitched around the brim for extra strength and durability. Hair bows are carefully constructed to hold their shape, and all products are machine washable and dryable for easy care. Every item is sewn by me on a sewing machine, with careful attention to consistency and quality. The Stay-On Shoes come in six sizes, from 0–3 months through 18–24 months. Smaller sizes feature soft cotton soles, while larger ones use grippy vegan leather soles for toddlers on the move. I offer a variety of fabrics including plush anti-pill fleece for warmth and organic cotton or cotton-bamboo blends for eco-conscious families. Burp cloths and bibs are designed for comfort, absorbency, and practicality. I also repurpose fabric scraps into smaller accessories such as hair bows whenever possible, reflecting my commitment to sustainable, waste-conscious practices. All of my products are made from vegan materials. United by a colorful, joyful aesthetic and a focus on children’s comfort, my collections celebrate contemporary handmade craft through thoughtful design, technical skill, and usability. Each piece reflects careful attention to materials, construction, and presentation, creating wearable items that bring delight to both children and their families while showcasing the artistry of modern handmade textile work.
