I am a local ceramic artist based out of Pittsburgh, PA. I make functional ceramic vessels that are primarily wheel thrown. I love surface decoration, especially in the form of repeating patterns inspired by nature and botanical designs. I use a technique called sgraffito in which images are etched or carved through layers of colored slip and underglaze before the first firing. Carving into each piece is a slow meditative process that layers visual and tactile texture on my work.
