About me and my studio

Welcome to the page for Cut & Sew Studio.  I am Catherine Batcho, owner and instructor.  I opened Cut & Sew Studio in 2007 and have over 30 years of experience sewing and enjoy more than anything sharing that love and passion for sewing with my students.  I began sewing at an early age and quickly learned that it was a skill that would never leave my side. As time passed, sewing grew from a life-long hobby into a professional career when I decided to pursue fashion design at Philadelphia University. I gained extensive technical expertise in pattern-making, draping and professional construction techniques. Following college, I began work at a Philadelphia bridal designer and boutique, Maria Romia. This was followed by another move, this time to working in NY City for Liz Claiborne and later for New York and Company. Here I gained experience working in both design/product development and technical design.

My final move brought me back to my hometown of Pittsburgh to open Cut & Sew Studio, opened in December of 2007. In my years back in Pittsburgh I have also done custom sewing and alteration work and worked as an adjunct professor of fashion at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In recent years, I  stepped back from those roles to focus solely on running my business at Cut & Sew Studio, teaching and raising my own kids.

About my classes:

We offer classes for all levels and ages (from 6 and up). Come and take a refresher, or learn new skills like dress making, bag making and quilting. We offer beginner classes, summer camps and advanced help in pattern work, alterations and sewing construction.  We will guide you through a wide variety of projects, whether we pick the project, or you!
