Meet the Girl Joe: I’m Joe. But to be clear Joe is really a Jo and I founded this small, family run company in 2018. Before that time I was an Instructional Designer. Autoimmune and neurological health issues prompted me to change professions. Wood turning is something my Dad taught me and it integrates nicely with my abilities and disabilities.
If you’re wondering why Joe with an ‘e’? That’s the way my Dad spells it. He was exceptional at teaching me to use power tools and make wooden things, but he isn’t known for having won any spelling bees.
My husband and daughter are also integral to my business. My husband is the man behind the scenes making everything happen, kind of like the Wizard of Oz behind the curtain. He runs the big chainsaw, moves literally tons of wood and is my greatest supporter. My daughter is my inhouse aesthetic consultant. She has sent more than a few items to the burn bowl. Her brutal honesty of each item’s visual appearance is both inspiring and humbling.
About My Products: All of my products are sustainable, handmade, one of a kind and come with a handwritten tag telling their history.
There are so many unwanted trees and assorted wooden things that go unused or even worse, abandoned to a landfill. These are the things I rescue, process and turn on the lathe so they become something new and useful.
Nothing here started out as lumber from the wood store.
No offense to the wood store … I just prefer to rescue my materials.
Since the original material is rescued there may be cracks, holes and other assorted characteristics that give each piece its unique character.
