ABOUT ME: Welcome to Scarves by Jennifer. My name if Jennifer Angelo. I make luxurious nuno felted silk and wool scarves, wraps and tunics.
I learned about felting while living in New Zealand. My husband got his dream job and it happened to be in New Zealand-where sheep outnumber people 7 to 1. Always interested in handwork, I learned this new skill of nuno felting. My inspiration comes from nature, the seasons and sea creatures.
When we returned to the states, I continued learning and honing my skill working with wool, coaxing it into beautiful clothing.
Felting is an ancient craft practiced for centuries in the Middle east and Europe. It starts with simple, basic materials; wool and soapy water. To transform wool into felt, you have to add friction. In later years, the techniques have been refined to create drapable, soft clothing.
ABOUT MY PRODUCTS: My felting technique consists of laying out the wool shingle-by-shingle, or wisp by wisp. Then I sprinkle the wool with warm soapy water, roll it in bubble wrap and rotate it back and forth. During this motion, the fibers tangle around each other to create a luxurious fabric that I then turn into a scarf, wrap or tunic.
All the products posted on my page have been lovingly handmade by me.
I live in Wisconsin with my husband, short hair chihuahua and my studio, where the shelves burst with wool fibers in a rainbow colors.
