ABOUT ME:
Hi, I’m Julie Zaichuk-Ryan, a maker of traditional-meets-modern quilts, wall hangings, and textile art. First drawn to beautiful fabrics and colors, I have been sewing for over ten years, forming a specialty in handwork over that time: embroidery, hand-sewing, and hand-quilting. I sew as much as possible by hand for the very reason that some wouldn’t: it’s slow work that cannot be mass-produced and allows the unique shape of my stitches to shine, like a fingerprint. The piece you choose will be completely unique and made with love, not speed. I honor the work women have done for generations by cherishing these skills and bringing them into the modern home.
ABOUT MY PRODUCTS:
My art pieces are completely sewn by hand, then quilted by hand, and no two are the same. I love to combine tiny pieces from my scrap basket, occasionally finding the perfect tiny floral or vintage scrap and putting it to use. I follow their shapes, and then let the patchwork guide my decorative hand-quilting stitches.
While my quilts and wall hangings are made mostly by machine, I cannot help but feature a hand-stitched element in everything I do. I use only natural and washable fabrics and batting, so all quilts are meant to be washed and loved for a lifetime or passed down to loved ones over the years. Get in touch about a custom piece, I’d love to hear your ideas!
In addition to my handmade items, I also make a range of gift items, such as enamel pins and greeting cards, stockings and holiday ornaments that are inspired by the tradition of my craft.
