Meet the Maker: Zooguu makes high quality, handmade wall art that adds fun, humor, and color to everyday life. Jen Gubicza’s faux taxidermy line is a humorous take on the classic hunting trophy. Each animal is handmade from an original sewing pattern and is available in a variety of sizes. Zooguu faux taxidermy is sold on our own website, in a handful of boutique shops and at select artisan markets around the country. While there are fabric choices that have been standardized to allow for small run production, Jen also makes many one of a kind pieces, made from upcycled, high-end upholstery fabric remnants. Jen started sewing her own creatures as a hobby in the early 2000s and started her first Etsy shop in 2005. She expanded from stuffed animals to faux taxidermy and went full time as Zooguu in 2008. She brings her skills as a former creative director in the kid’s entertainment industry to running her small business and designing products that delight audiences at every show. Everything is designed and assembled by Jen, her husband and their studio assistant in Massachusetts. The “Guu” in Zooguu represents our last name, Gubicza. We think of it as meaning, “Our Zoo.” Plus, it’s short, fun to say, and the URL was available. We make things that we love and it’s our pleasure to share that joy with others.
